The first part of the Minecraft Caves and Cliffs update has added many useful blocks, but there’s one that often gets looked past - that being the moss block.

While not being the easiest block to find - you can only find them either in lush caves or shipwrecks, unless you get lucky and find them in a wandering trader - it is quite useful. Applying bonemeal to it provides you with an assortment of blocks, from azalea to even moss carpets. It can be quickly broken allowing for it to be used for traps.

It’s also a handy block when it comes to building. Its texture provides a natural feeling to any structures, and its carpets allow for spawn-proofing, texturing and hidden lighting techniques. Azaleas produced by it can sprout into nice trees for decoration, though the sapling itself can be used as well. These trees can also provide rooted dirt and hanging roots - both unique blocks to be used for detailing structures.

In general, moss blocks are brilliant for traps, building, and acquiring more unique blocks. They’re even farmable so you can have an endless supply of them.
